The Flowers of April

Spring and Easter are here, the season of death and life juxtaposed; darkness bleeds into lightness, as one season into the next. So while the lambs frolic ecstatically and the humming wild flowers embrace maturity, we take this opportunity to reflect on the season gone.

Very early on, we lost a bulwark of the community Mike Hazell to an exceptionally serious injury; luckily through the passage of time, Mike’s condition gradually improves. Rougham and the wider Bury District League are hoping and praying for his swiftening recovery and of course his gradual return to Table Tennis.

Given the loss of Mike, the RATTS, while playing well and performing solidly against many strong opponents, including two 2-3 scores against Bury’s Cavaliers, failed to pull their way out of mid-table status. For the ‘new kids on the block’, the Lions’ Debut season panned out rather well, losing only to the Hawks, Cavaliers and Fearns. Earning them a respectable 4th position. Finally the Fearns, pulled up by an unstoppable Mike Troughton, squeezed their way into joint 2nd with the Hawks after a marked improvement from last year.

For now, as the season winds down to a close, we ponder on what comes next, our club-nights and Saturday sessions remain teeming with enthusiasm and energy, our sights set on high. Climb we must, climb we shall.
